James Cogan (b. 31 Aug 1956; d. 22 May 1983) was the son of Sarah Vernon and Nathan Wournos, the adopted son of June and Paul Cogan, the grandson of Max Hansen, and the husband of Arla Cogan. Also known as The Colorado Kid, he was found dead on a beach in Haven, Maine in May 1983.
Background[]
James was born August 31, 1956 to Sarah Vernon, and a time traveling Nathan Wuornos. For an unspecified reason afterwards, Sarah put him up for adoption and never told anyone who his father was. It's entirely possible that Sarah realized that she would have to leave Hunter Meteor Storm before she placed him under adoption, but it's never specified. Sarah would give James to Paul and June Cogan, and June would promise Sarah to take care of James.
1983[]
James would marry Arla in 1983. Sometimes afterward, James wanted to track down Sarah. So he and Arla would go to Haven, Maine to find out what happened to her. This happened on May 3, 1983, or in the days afterwards, since May 3rd was when he was last seen in Nederland, Colorado. Unbeknownst to him, Sarah was actually a woman named Mara, and that Sarah had just been one of her identities. He would meet Lucy Ripley, the most recent reincarnation of Mara. It's unknown what Lucy did for a living, but James, Lucy and Garland Wuornos would start investigating the troubles.
After not seeing the Holloway women for a while, so they went to the Holloway House. They would find the bodies of Mrs, Holloway and her two daughters in a bedroom. The pair would escape by destroying the windows.
Not long after that, Dave Teagues would kill James under orders from Croatoan. Croatoan would erase the minds of everyone who witnessed the attack. A picture would be taken of the crime scene, with Lucy and Duke Crocker in the picture. The photo of the scene would be published by the Haven Herald, with the title "Who Killed The Colorado Kid".
Vince Teagues would be the one who buried the body, but Lucy would somehow manage to get ahold of James body and would write "find him before the hunter," in his coffin. She would fill the coffin full of bricks. The coffin would be buried in Plot 301.
Garland Wournos was the cop assigned to investigate the case, but was never managed to solve it because of Croatoan. Lucy would take James to the barn. While in the barn, James would be healed.
2011[]
Right before the 2011 Hunter Meteor Storm, James would be kicked out of the barn to lure Audrey Parker into the barn. James would meet Nathan for the first time. Arla would be lured into the barn. Since troubles didn't work in the barn, Arla's stopped working. James would be horrified by his wife's appearance, and what she did to get that way.
2013[]
In the final scene in "Forever", Audrey manages to return to Haven, though now under the identity of Paige, and also brings James with her, now reborn as an infant. Both are reunited with Nathan and it's clear that this time Audrey (Paige) and Nathan will be able to raise James as a family.

Discrepancy[]
Cogan's birth date is given as 31 August 1956, but his date of conception is 16 August 1955. If he was born on 8/31/56, then he would have been conceived on or around 25 November 1955; if he was conceived on 8/16/55, then he would have been born on or around 22 May 1956. A possible theory is that Cogan's birth date was changed when he was adopted. It is also possible that Sarah's pregnancy was overdue by an extended amount, possibly due to being an otherworldly being or the father being a time displaced person. Real world pregnancies can be overdue by around 2 months, if not longer.
In "The Hand You're Dealt" (Season 1, Episode 10), Vanessa Stanley says the last thing the Colorado Kid saw was "a pale arm... a man's arm... with a tattoo of some kind inside the forearm". However, in "Just Passing Through" (Season 5, Episode 12), it's revealed that Dave Teagues killed James the first time, and he does not have the tattoo. Neither does Arla Cogan, who killed James the second time. It is unclear who Vanessa would be referring to.
