"Morbidity" is the 61st episode of Haven and the ninth episode of Season 5.

Synopsis[]

When Audrey and dozens of Haven citizens are affected by a mysterious illness, the symptoms threaten to expose Haven’s secrets to a dangerous newcomer.

Plot[]

Someone is running away in the forest. They slam into a dear and it falls over and turns into a woman. The woman screams as smoke is drawn out of her eyes. The person runs forward and sees the word Croatoan carved into a tree. They turn and see all of the Roanoke Colonists dead, scattered around the forest. Right behind a dead man there is an open thinny. Dave wakes up suddenly from this dream and reaches down when his infected leg hurts. He picks up his phone and calls Chris Brody to ask him for a favor.[production 1]

Dwight, Nathan and Audrey are hanging out at The Grey Gull outside by the water. Nathan and Audrey explain how Mara is locked up in Duke's boat. Dwight asks about Mara, and Nathan and Audrey tell him that she helped with the last trouble. Audrey excuses herself to go get a refill on their drinks and Charlotte Cross shows up and asks Dwight to help her find Dave because she needs to see the infected wound on his leg, because the infection is virulent and unknown.

Everyone panics about Dave and the idea the CDC might learn about the Troubles. Duke tells Dwight that he has a friend who can get Dave out of town. Dwight says he'll find Dave and bring him to Duke. However, as soon as Dwight hangs up the phone, he sees Dave is in the police station talking to one of the officers and telling jokes. Dwight tries to get Dave out before Charlotte sees him, but is too late.

Dave is showing his wound to Charlotte in Dwight's office. Dave says he got stung by a jellyfish and suggests that Dwight call Chris since he is Haven's Marine Expert. Charlotte tells him it's okay, but he does it anyway. Chris video chats with them and they all start to fawn over Chris. Charlotte sees him on the video feed and Chris explains that Dave's wound is from a rare strain of jellyfish. Charlotte immediately accepts this and says she has a medication that might work. She walks out of the room with Dave.

Chris tells Dwight that he researched Charlotte and discovered her knowledge on invertebrates was lacking, so that's why they went with jellyfish sting. Chris hangs up his video chat and Charlotte comes back in. She tells Dwight that she gave Dave the medicine she had. She tried to call in a prescription, but the local pharmacist has a deadly staph infection. Dwight offers to drive her two towns over, but she says she's going to stay to check on Dave in the morning.

Nathan and Audrey are checking out a call they got. There is a dancing bear in front of a Haven shop. They try to get the bear to move on. The bear pulls its head off and it's empty. He puts it back on and then removes it again, but now there is a dead guy with half his head missing inside. There is another one. It seems to be the same dude. And another pops up. They're popping up all over town.

Dwight takes CDC Charlotte out for Lobster and runs into Nathan trying to collect one of the bears. Nathan tells them the restaurant is out of lobster and to try the Gull. Dwight pulls Charlotte away just as a bear removes it's head and locals scream. Dwight says it's because people get upset when they're out of lobster.

Mara walks out of the shower and stands naked in front of Duke, wondering if they're moving toward something. Duke says they're not going anywhere because she killed Jennifer. She tells Duke she didn't kill Jennifer because she wanted her alive. Duke wants to know why Mara cares what Duke thinks of her.

Dwight and Charlotte bond over dinner. She recognizes in him his military service and she shares she was a Navy surgeon. A man keels over and it's likely a rare form of staph infection. If it's the same one the Pharmacist has, they'll be glad she's there.

The bears are popping up around town faster than they can collect them. The Haven doctor thinks the sick might have gotten food poisoning at the Grey Gull.

Mara makes a snide comment when Duke brings her food. She comments about how the town is being investigated by the CDC and Duke wants to know how she knows that. She tells him it's not the first time and that it happened before when everything traveled by hors. However with all the new technology, now it'll blow up. As soon as the CDC discover the woman who's immune to the troubles and him as the man who can take the troubles away will be the ones who end up being experimented on for the rest of their lives.

Nathan and Audrey find the woman who has the Trouble. Lucy was here helping 28 years ago. The lady shows Audrey a photo of herself and Lucy.

Charlotte determines Gloria is incompetent because she's withholding information. Gloria, meanwhile, thinks a man will activate his Trouble because he's a germaphobe and doesn't want to be in the hospital. He makes bubbles. They can't remove the IV in time and the man dies because of the bubbles. Now that the fourth patient is dead, Charlotte walks and finds this guy and is even more concerned, because she doesn't know about the Troubles.

The bears show up everywhere the girl's dad took her. She and her husband, Hank, had the flu that fever blisters.

Mara is happy to see Duke because she warned him that they would tell him to hide out because they're worried one of his troubles will activate. Duke admits that Dwight did tell him to lay low. Mara predicts that they're going to start rounding up troubled people and that they'll turn against him.

Dave's infection is looking great. Dwight and Charlotte decide to do some touring and then finish their dinner. Her testing reveals a similar genetic marker in all of the Troubled.

Eve is worried about losing Hank. That's what triggered her Trouble. Dwight shares the bad news -- the bear is still popping up. Hank wants to know what they can do. Audrey calls in Mara. Mara calls her Audrey Husk. Audrey thinks that getting Eve out of town will get rid of the bears.

When Audrey tells Duke Nathan is rounding up Troubled people, Duke realizes Mara's predictions are coming true.

Duke and Dwight are worried about the Troubles going off when Charlotte walks in. She thinks the bubble guy was murdered. She places the town under quarantine.

Duke gets the electrical girl to wreck the cell phone tower. Charlotte doesn't want to hear from Dwight. She wonders why everyone is coming for her.

Dwight sticks up for Charlotte, even tasing Duke to keep him from kidnapping her.

Duke then decides to utilize Mara. They're on their own.

  • Nathan: Hey folks nothing to see here. Just a street performer without a permit so we'll be removing him.
