Most bloodlines pass through the father using a single line of descent. There have been only two matrilineal bloodlines. The majority of Troubles are not only patrilineal, they pass from father to son.
It's unknown what happens when both parents are Troubled. No Troubled character has been revealed to have more than one Troubled parent, although statistically speaking it's almost impossible for every character seen to have only one Troubled parent, especially given that many characters can trace their bloodlines back to the founding of Haven. It is possible that one Trouble dominates the other, and patrilineal Troubles tend to be more dominant.
For the larger effects of this trope, see Tropes: Women.
Non-gender specific[]
- The Novelli family Trouble comes from twin girls several generations back. It affects both daughters and sons for several generations.[1]
- Piper Taylor got her Trouble from her father. She gave it to her son Landon, who likely gave it to his son, Zack.[2]
- Harry Nix got his Trouble from his father. He gave it to both daughters and sons.[3]
Matrilineal Troubles[]
Mother to daughter[]
- Beatrice Mitchell got her Trouble from her grandmother, Alexandra Leidner. This Trouble is matrilineal by default because it is a Mystical Pregnancy Trouble[4]
- Carrie Benson's Trouble is a matrilineal Trouble, passed down to all the women in her family.[5]
Patrilineal Troubles[]
- Hadley Chambers got her Trouble from her paternal grandfather Arthur Chambers.[6]
- Vince Teagues's wife got her Trouble from her father.[7][note 1]
Father to son[]
- The Glendower Trouble only affects the men in the family.[8]
- The Crocker Trouble doesn't specify that it does not affect women, but we've seen no evidence that it does. Frequent references are made to the Trouble being passed from father to son.[9]
- Ray McBreen got his Trouble from his grandfather.[10]
- Michael Garrick got his Trouble from his father James. This appears to be a pure patrilineal Trouble; Michael's sister Brook is not Troubled.[11]
- Nathan Wuornos got his Trouble from his biological father, Max Hansen.[12]
- Chris Brody got his Trouble from his father Richard.[13]
- Wesley Toomey got his Trouble from his grandfather.[9]
- The Harker family Trouble seemed to affect only males. Aaron Harker got his Trouble from his father, Ben, who got the Trouble from his father before him. There's also a reference made to an uncle.[14]
Notes[]
- ↑ It is not known if his wife actually had ever had the Trouble or if Vince simply assumed she would get it.
